Dr. Weber obtained her bachelors degree in Microbiology from the California State University at San Diego in 1978. She completed her internship in medical technology the following year. Her work in the clinical laboratory solidified an interest in infectious diseases that led to an internship and licensure as a public health microbiologist. After working for the county of San Diego public health laboratory for two years, she accepted a research position on a synthetic vaccine project at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. Dr. Weber went on to complete her master's and doctorate degrees in public health with an emphasis in biomedical sciences at the University of California at Berkeley. After completion of graduate school Dr. Weber joined the pathology department at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego where she set up the respiratory disease laboratory for the purpose of conducting clinical research. Within two years she joined a startup biotechnology company as Director of Microbiology and Immunology. This work at Trega Biosciences led to collaboration with Ribi ImmunoChem in Hamilton, Montana. After expressing interest in relocating to Montana, she was offered the position of Head of Cardiovascular Pharmacology at Ribi. Prior to joining The International Heart Institute of Montana, Dr. Weber's research focus was in the area of cardioprotection where she worked on the development of an intravenous product for the prevention of ischemia/reperfusion injury associated with cardiopulmonary bypass.
